In February 2021 we co-founded a Digital Education company named Digital Engine (DE).
DE provides AI solutions to Japanese schools, cram schools, and edutech companies:

• Student's comprehension analysis. Our AI engine can analyze why a student cannot solve a problem. For example, the AI engine can understand a student cannot solve quadratic equations because they do not understand fractions.

• Learning program recommendation. Based on the compresion analysis, the AI engine can recommend lectures to watch, practice problems to solve, etc.

• College entrance exam preparation recommendation. Our AI engine can predict the probability of getting accepted to a particular college, and recommend a learning program to increase the probability.

• OCR (optical character recognition) specialized for education. Each person has an unique handwriting, especially elementary school students that are learning how to write letters, numbers, and symbols. Typical OCR engines have very low accuracy for this target. We created an OCR engine that is built specifically using training data from students.

• Handwriting recognition (HWR) technology provided by MyScript. In Japan, each student have access to a laptop or tablet. Using keyboards to input answers is an issue due to: word prediction giving off hints/answers, not a natural input method (need to learn how to use a keyboard), etc. HWR solves the above issues. MyScript, a French company, has the #1 accuracy and market share in HWR and DE is a resale and integration partner. 

Although still under stealth-mode,  we already have 5+ companies within Japan's top 10 education company (Benesse, Gakken, Tokyo Shoseki, etc) using one or more of the above product.

On April 15th, our specialized OCR engine was featured on Asahi Television's news show "Hodo Station (報道ステーション)".
