MONOist, one of the top publications for hardware, released an article on Realwear's industrial wearable computer as a key part in the convergence of IT and OT (Operational Technology). OT is the computing and communications to manage and monitor industrial assets, events, and processes. In the industrial sector, typically IT is for data and OT for hardware such as SCADA and PLC.
The convergence of the two has been a key topic as valuable data resides in both, and meaningful analysis or autonomous control can be realized. However, there has been a gap between IT and OT systems, as they usually run independently, or with limited integration. This is due to the complexity and autonomy of OT systems, and typically each running on different networks.
Realwear's device has the potential to become the bridge of IT and OT, as field workers can maintain OT while accessing IT insights.
